This is a mushroom cap on the head of this icon... a magic mushroom. Which, now that i think of it... Jan Irvin of Gnostic Media claims that mushrooms for enlightenment was not done by shamans, they used the mushroom only for medicinal purposes. Jan Irvin claims that the term entheogens was coined by the CIA to herald in the drug culture... but this image certainly predates the 1960s. Hmmm....
